Lost Tapes : Creaturefy Yourself, Lost Tapes Game : Animal Planet.

From Discovery Channel’s Animal Planet, this flash app lets you upload a photo and transform yourself into a ghoulish creature using eyes, hair, noses, teeth and more from the Vampire, Lizardman, Werewolf, Owlman and Bigfoot creature.

This is me, part Lizardmand and Owlman.

www.Classtools.net website has an online tool that lets you create educational games, activities and diagrams in a Flash!, using Flash. You can then host your creations on your own website, or blog, though I was unable to embed it here. There’s no signup or passwords and it is free.

Here’s an example of the Dustbin game I created about musical instrument families.

In addition to a few flash games, there’s a countdown timer available with music, a random name selector and a variety of graphic organizers.

Tech Lesson in Kindergarten Class.. Animals

Last term, in the process of providing STEM support for a Title IIB Grant in the Bronx, I had the pleasure of conducting a laptop lesson with some kindergarten students. The class had been reading Eric Carle’s books and learning about different animals.

Children in the class used laptops to visit a site to hear animal sounds at kiddyhouse.com – http://www.kiddyhouse.com/Farm/ . This site was simple to access, and easy for a young audience to use. Another site with an animal farm is www.kbears.com/farm/ . The Kbears website has several other interactive worlds for primary grades (2-4) and a library of 100 animals. The kindergarten class had fun clicking and listening to the sounds of farm animals. Then we all went to \label the parts of a horse at the BBC schools web site. Flash interactives for Ourselves includes labelling parts of a horse, a fish and a human. The students were thrilled to drag and drop the labels on the right parts. Check it out here . BTW… the BBC Schools website is a fabulous resource for students of all ages. Lots of kindergarten students read Eric Carle books. For ideas to use in the classroom, check out the website – many teachers have submitted great ideas at http://www.eric-carle.com/catexchange.html.
