Reading Evolution

I stumbled upon this pictorial from the NY Times that illustrates how reading has changed with the advent of the WWW.

The New Readers

While I cannot locate an accompanying article, it should be noted that new reading devices are also part of the evolution. There the new Kindle, another reader from Sony, and some tout the iPod Touch. These links take a look at those. I really like the size and readability of the Kindle, but there are drawbacks.

Just today there’s a video from David Pogue, but his article is much more enlightening.

Visual Literacy

If you have any interest at all in how we represent things visually, you just much check out this link fro visual literacy.org. It’s amazing how they have analyzed and categorized the many ways data and concepts are illustrated, charted and graphed! http://www.visual-literacy.org/periodic_table/periodic_table.html is the web page. The site also offers training and insights. Mindmaps, cycling, flowcharts, clustering, venn diagrams, radar charts, organization charts, turkey box plots and plenty more you may have never heard of are presented in the form of a Periodic Table. What’s really terrific is that examples of each type are displayed as you mouse over the table.
